Fraser Island Fishing

Fraser Island's famous 75-Five Mile Beach is right on the action for some of the best beach fishing in the world. With the huge amount of surf gutters along beaches providing fishermen with all-season angling, with anything from whiting and bream in warmer months and swallowtail that can be caught all year round. Tailor is also another great catch while on Fraser Island which can be done by the dozen load in the winter season along the beach as well as being able to reel in all of the usual rock species when fishing from either Indian Head and Waddy Point in the northern parts of Fraser Island.

If you are looking to launch your own boat to fish the high seas surrounding Fraser Island you can do this at either Indian Head or Waddy Point where calm waters are present and it is easy to get your boat in and out. There are some great fishing spots that are located off the northern parts of Fraser Island, providing some fantastic fishing entertainment all year round. Expect to reel in anything from prime reef fish including red emperor, coral trout, maori cod and parrot as well as trevally, tuna, mackerel and shark.

If that isn't enough, there is the western side of the island as well, with tremendous flats-fishing and jacks in the creeks plus the attractions of Kingfisher Bay resort as a kick-off point. Further north, usually accessed via Hervey Bay, there is great game-fishing as well.

Freshwater fishing is strictly prohibited on Fraser Island, but there is plenty of opportunities or beach fishing where ever you are on the island. So pack all the rods you can, so you can throw a line in when you can!
